Media Futures – Policy, Politics and Power

To be held in

Brussels from the 10th to the 11th of October 2011


A cornucopia of top level speakers from the European Commission, the Guardian, Al Jazeera, the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University, Centre for European Policy Studies, Global Voices, Der Spiegel, Al Jazeera, RIA Novosti and many more are expected to be present.

The event is shaping up to be the opportunity of the year as it calls for an active discussion regarding the rapidly changing media landscape and EU policies in light of the fundamental changes happening in the EU’s neighbourhood.

More than 200 senior journalists working on European and international affairs along with editor-in-chiefs of major news outlets in the ENPI region (Kommersant, Radio Moscow, A1, Batumlebi, Rustavi 2, AmmanRadio.net, Al Akhbar, Haaretz, Le Quotidien, Al-Masry Al-Youm, etc.) will be brought together to discuss these timely topics.

The two-day international event will focus on the recent developments in the region and discuss some of the following issues:

- The Future of journalism: media policy and democratic legitimacy.
- Press freedom: the effectiveness of current regulatory policies and instruments.
- Social media and 2011 revolutions: reshaping world politics.
- Discussing the business of news: how to monetise social media.
- Global communications, development and transition.
- Revised European Neighbourhood Policy.
