"لم يبق لي إلا أن أخوض هذه المغامرة عبر قارب متواضع في بحر هائج قد أصل من خلاله إلى شط آمن في الطرف الآخر من العالم الواسع أو تذهب الفرصة فأصبح كغيري من الذين حلموا بالشاطئ لكنهم تحولوا طعاماً للأسماك الكبيرة في عرض البحر" .
هكذا يختصر عثمان مشكلته وهو في مركز الاحتجاز الإجباري في جزيرة مالطا التي بدأت تبحث عن خطط جديدة لمواجهة تحديات تزايد الهجرة غير الشرعية الآتية من شواطئ دول مجاورة .
