Programme Netherlands training immigration/integration

Dear all,
I hope to see you all in the Netherlands (19-23) January. We are trying to put together an appealing programme on immigration/integration. Quite some speakers have confirmed their participation (the Dutch (Turkish origin) state secretary for Justice and Immigration, the minister for European Affairs, members of parliament and publicists). Besides we will meet local politicians that will show us around in 'difficult' neighbourhoods, where the lack of integration is become more and more of a problem. One question to you... What would you think of the idea to meet Geert Wilders, the right wing politician that made the infamous movie Fitna? It might be interesting, but it might also be offensive given his stand against moslim religion. I am curious to hear your opinion

Ron, I will get this translated and circulated to the Maghrebi participants by Friday. Best
Actually it will be great to see him there. There are many basis ofr this interest: many people, being antagonst to Muslim people or Islam doesn't have enough information about this religion. It is not only way to speak, but discuss, why, based on which interests people starting to talk/shoot this kind of things. Also Azerbaijan is the most secular Muslim country in the world and here we are thinking how to show, that Islam has different faces and diversified cultures. not many people in EU knows it. So this two aspects is showing importance of having him there, but not only as a speaker, but in a group of discussion.
How we can participate there Ron?
Hi Emin,
I actually had this in mind for the next training for Maghreb group on immigration/integration issues. But I am happy you gave your opinion as well. Some people say in my surroundings say we should not give attention to right wing politicians with extreme ideas. I disagree with that,it's my opinion that it is always interesting to see the extremes of the political spectrum. And after all, you are all journalists and you can decide yourself what you do with the material, if anything. So Emin, I am sorry to say that there will not be anything of this kind in the first training you will participate in, but I would be happy to hear your ideas as to future work shops we will organise so rthat we can then take them on board.
Best for now and hope to see you in two weeks!
Ron

Ron, Actually I am not participating in 2-weeks workshop and do not know how to participate/where apply. Where can I get this all information?
On the issue: actually talking with such filmmakers, terrorists, 'others side's is always issue of journalism ethics and is interesting to discuss.

Emin,

my name is David Quin and I run the training session we are organising here at the ENJN project. Just to let you know how it works. We have nominated reporters from the leading newspapers, online and broadcast outlets from the 16 member states of the ENPI area, including - of course - Azerbaijan. The editors of these news outlets nominate who they wish to go to our training sessions. Nominated reporters have to have between 3 - 7 years experience of reporting not more, be fluent in Russian and ideally English (not essential but desirable), demonstrate a clear interest in EU affairs and be willing to research the stories we are covering during any given training session.

During the week long training workshops we produce real time stories that get used by the newspapers or channels, some of which you can see on this website.

The Brussels session is full I am afraid. We already have our target numbers. But if you are interested, and fit the above criteria and have the support of your editor, then send me:

Your CV
A letter explaining why you're interested

And I will take a look and let you know what we think.

All the best

Ron,

I am working as a Caucasus Project Manager for Transition Online (www.tol.org), Prague based new media development organization and magazine. So my English is fluent, the same is about my Russian. I know some 2 more EU languages as well. I can send you letter from our editor-in-chief any time, but need some basics: in which workshop I can participate in near future. Please write, if there any at the end of year or beginning next year.
I am covering not only this whole region as a citizen journalist, but also as a professional journalist. Main interest for me is development of new media and influence of social networks, blogosphere, mobile activities, flash-mobs, e-campaigns and other parts of e-democracy to the life of people. Just a month ago I presented situation on this issue in Council of Europe's "E-Democracy" conference. Also I have been to Amsterdam in Picnic (invited by EJC) to talk on citizen journalism. This incredible increase in Azerbaijan and other South Caucasus countries is followed by traditional media. As I see last 1 year, citizen journalists are more effective and fast to cover, than any TV/radio/press media. So it is a basic background on me.
Hope to hear fron you soon.
